Home School Program

General Information

Oak Grove Home School is a K-8 public school alternative to classroom learning for parents who want to teach their children at home. For families who are committed to this type of schooling, we provide ongoing instructional guidance, support, books and other student supplies.

How it works: A meeting is arranged for interested families to determine whether home school is an appropriate choice. Once accepted, the family meets regularly with a home school teacher, who provides materials and instructional guidance. Typically, students meet with the home school teacher once a week to review the completed assignments and receive new assignments. Assignments are designed by the teacher to reflect district standards as well as the needs and interests of the student and family. All assignments must be completed in a timely manner. Students spend at least four hours each day on school work.
In addition to the weekly meeting, additional meetings can be arranged to work on weak academic areas, receive direct math instruction, or participate in group activities.

Our current schedule of offerings:

Pre-Algebra Class: Monday and Wednesday 10:15 to 11:15, for students at the Pre-Algebra Level.

Thursday events: Art and Music Lessons, Science Experiments, Field Trips open to all students.

What Home Schoolers and Parents say about Home School with Oak Grove Union School District:

"I've actually gotten more work done than I did last year when I was in regular school. It's actually helping me to turn in my work and learn what I need to."

"It's working really well for my son, I like knowing what he is working on. I think it is working better for him than school did last year."
